A number of franchisees have become disenchanted with their franchises
over time. Part of this is that they come to resent the ongoing royalty fee
because they do not feel they are receiving value like the startup assistance
they got in the beginning.
For many, dissatisfaction arises from the franchisor not continuing to add
value through new services, additional support, updated products, or other
profit enhancing items. This is probably the biggest area of concern for
franchisees.
Check into whether franchisees vote for a governing or advisory board for
advertising funds, and perhaps an advisory committee to express the franchisee
concerns to the franchisor. A good communication channel keeps the franchisor
improving the value of its offering.
If your franchise has such boards, consider volunteering to serve every once
in a while. This will give you a better say in franchise operations. It may also
lead to occasional special consideration of your concerns and ideas.
